Are you thinking about getting Invisalign? Many prospective Invisalign patients wonder exactly what Invisalign is and how it works. We’ve put together an overarching look at how this nearly invisible teeth straightening system works. Hopefully it will help you make an informed decision on which option is right for you!
Aligners: What Are They Made Of & How Do They Look?
The Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. This means they may only be noticeable upon close inspection. The lab makes your aligners out of something called a thermoplastic material. The uniquely shaped material fits your individual mouth, creating a completely customized treatment plan just for you.
These trays look similar to whitening trays. Since the material is thinner and more closely crafted, though, they are much less bulky. We create a series of Invisalign aligners just for you, so as your teeth gradually shift, you start a new tray to move your teeth into their desired position.
How Do the Aligners Work?
We start your treatment with your first set of aligners, and we supply you with a series of aligners that are all slightly different. That allows them each to make slight adjustments to the position of your teeth. We plan out these adjustments by mapping out your mouth in advance. We are able to use advanced technology to customize each aligner to gently reposition your teeth until they are in their desired position.
When you wear the aligners, they move your teeth slowly and gently. After just two weeks, you begin another set of aligners, and the straightening process continues effortlessly.
How Effective Is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses the patented thermoplastic design. These aligners reposition your teeth with controlled force placed just so to make sure your teeth are gently repositioned.
Invisalign controls both the force and the timing of this force application. Each stage requires only certain teeth to move. We will determine the correct movement to make for the most comfortable, effective treatment for you.
What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?
First of all, the aligners are nearly invisible, so you don’t have to worry about everyone noticing you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. They fit in right with your lifestyle. If you want to take a few hours off from wearing your aligners for an event, a date, or some other special occasion, you can do so because they are removable! Just make sure you wear them for at least 22 hours a day.
