Feed Your Brain and Body for Going Back to Campus with a Compact Fridge Full of Good Ideas
Having healthy essentials on hand provides a foundation of nutrients that will pay off in the classroom, on the scale, and in the dentist’s office! A healthy fridge in the dorm room can help fill in the gaps in time, energy, and nutrition many college students experience.
It’s What’s Inside the Dorm Room Fridge that Counts
The dorm room mini-fridge might be small, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be mighty. Make room for delicious nutrition that keeps your brain and body at the head of the class. Here are some well-rounded ideas:
- Mini-Mediterranean delights: Don’t freeze out healthy snacks like carrots, hummus, and cheese.
- Top-shelf H2O: Always have a cold one on hand.
- Sandwich ingredients keep lunch fresh and fast.
- Yogurt packs a sweet supply of calcium for teeth & bone health.
Smart Choices on the Side
You’ll want to use every nook and cranny in your refrigerator. Whether what you really need is hydration or a little taste of home, set yourself up for success with a little comfort food and a burst of energy. These compact items can come in very handy:
- Keep PB&J on hand for a familiar treat any time you need it.
- Sports drink electrolytes and veggie juice vitamins keep you on your game.
Top it Off Right
It’s tempting to use the top of your tiny fridge for decoration or extra book storage. Don’t waste your space. Put some good stuff where you can see it! Then you might be less tempted to go down the hall to the vending machine. These tasty treats are “dentist approved” and have other health benefits too:
- Trail mix offers a quick brain pick-me-up.
- A little dose of dark chocolate for the body and soul.

Don’t Shut the Door on Health
We went to college once too, so we know you’ll need room for some other goodies. Even with all of that healthy stuff on those small shelves, you should still have room for thoughtfully-wrapped leftovers, a few pieces of pizza, and even a caffeinated beverage or two. We challenge you to keep those to a minimum and use the fridge to your advantage!
